Client: Mr & Mrs I , Near Parracombe, Exmoor
Brief:The client owns a beautiful farm house in Exmoor which had been extended in the 1960’s by a previous owner. The extension did not sit well visually and was not in keeping with the main building. The client required the extension to be demolished and a new extension built that made better use of the space and was more attractive. As a part of the same project the entire house was re-slated.
To facilitate work throughout the winter, the entire project was protected from the weather by a scaffold roof and weatherproof tarpaulins which gave the effect of building the new extension inside a tent.
The house is used as holiday accommodation so the works needed to be completed out side of the main letting season. Work commenced in November and was completed in time for the first let of the following April.
We have gone on to complete several other projects for this customer.
Reference: Mr. Andrew Gibbs managed the rebuilding of a wing of our traditional Devon farmhouse. The original wing had been added in the 60's and had been poorly constructed in a chalet style. This was demolished and a new wing built using traditional materials to match the main farmhouse. Mr. Gibbs was very helpful in locating good quality stone and oak materials at reasonable costs. His team of builders was skilled and helpful. Mr. Gibbs was able to be flexible as we altered some of the design as we went along and he was able to advise us of the best cost options. He finished the project on time and we were extremely pleased with the final build which was of an extremely high standard of workmanship in construction and finishing details such as oak lintels, staircases etc. We have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Gibbs.
